Matcha Mama Visits a Tea Farm in Kyoto

We had the incredible opportunity to visit a small, family-owned green tea farm tucked away in the lush countryside of Kyoto. As someone who lives and breathes matcha, this experience was nothing short of magical—and eye-opening.

One of the most memorable parts of the visit was getting to pick fresh green tea leaves straight from the fields. There’s something so grounding and peaceful about it. I’ve sipped countless cups of matcha, but to actually see where it all begins gave me a whole new perspective.

We also explored their small factory where the freshly harvested leaves are steamed, dried, and ground. I learned so much about how even the subtlest changes in timing or temperature can completely transform the final flavor.

What touched me the most was how intentional everything was. This wasn’t about mass production or trends—it was about respect. Respect for the earth, the craft, and the people who keep it alive.

I left with a deeper connection to the matcha I’ve always loved. If you ever find yourself in Kyoto, I highly recommend visiting a tea farm—it will change the way you experience every cup.
